Workforce Australia Local Jobs (Barwon) has been working with Cultura to support members of the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) community as they look to gain employment and acclimate into the Barwon Region.
Through this collaboration, Local Jobs Barwon is supporting the Cultura Job Club for CALD jobseekers in the Northern Suburbs for 14 weeks as part of our Local Jobs Local Initiative Fund.
The funding allows Cultura to facilitate a Job Club and additional mentoring for their clients, providing individualised culturally specific support to CALD job seekers.
This activity includes 14 Job Clubs over 14 weeks, from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm every Wednesday.
5 individuals will be supported each week, with a total of 70 different individuals supported over the 14-week period. Individuals are supported for as long as needed during this period using a mentor-style approach.
The Job Club is a drop-in session tailored to the needs of individuals attending on the day. Supports include:
- Resume and application preparation
- Interview skills
- Advocacy
- Support for qualification recognition
- Finding and responding to jobs
Cultura also provides face to face mentoring for jobseekers, flexibility in working with individuals, an ability to refer to other culturally sensitive, internal and external supports (e.g. mental health, legal, English classes, social groups etc) and bi-cultural support when needed.
